අද එතැන් සිට

මේ වන විට විජයට කුවේනිය ගෙන්

 පුතෙකු හා දුවක ලැබී තිබිණ. විජය කුමරු මදුරපුර කුමරියගේ පැමිණීම අසා,

 “සොඳුර ඔබ අපට වඩා වෙනස් නිසා, මාගේ පිරිවර නිතරම බයෙන් ජීවත් වෙති. ඒ නිසා දරුවන් මෙහි තබා මෙම නගරයෙන් පිටවී යනු මැනව”. කීවේය. මෙය ඇසූ කුවේනිය අනෙක් යක්ෂයින් තමන් මුලින් කල දෝහිකම් නිසා දඩුවම් කරන බව දැන, මහත් බියට පත්වූවාය. විජය කුමරු මෙය දැක “ඔබ සදහා රන්මසු දහසකින් බලි දානයක් කරවමි” යැයි කීවේය. ඇය බොහෝ වරක් ඉල්ලා සිටියද, විජය තම තීරණය වෙනස් නොකල හෙයින් තමනට මෙයින් අනතුරක් වන බව හොදින් දන්නේ වුවද,  දරුවන්ද රැගෙන ලංකාපුර වෙත ගියාය. (මෙයින් පෙනෙන්නේ විජය කුමරු ලංකාවට ඒමට පෙර මෙහි ජීවත් වූ පිරිස් මේ වනවිටත් බලකොටු නගර වල ජීවත් වී ඇති බවයි)

 දරුවන් එලියේ හිඳුවා ඇය නගරය තුලට ගිය ඈ දුටු යක්ෂයන් ඇය නැවතත් ඔත්තු බැලීමට පැමිණ ඇතැයි සැක කර, ලොකු කලබගෑනියක් ඇතිවිය. සැර පරුෂ යක්ෂයෙකු ඇය එක් පහරකින්ම මරණයට පත්කලේය.

 ඇයගේ මවගේ සහෝදරයෙක් මෙය දැක නගරයෙන් පිටතට ගොස් කුවේනියගේ දරුවන් ගෙන් ඔවුන් කවුරුන්දැයි විමසුවේය. ඔවුන් කුවේනියගේ දරුවන් යැයි දැන

 “ඔබගේ මව මරා දමන ලද්දේය. ඔබත් මෙතන සිටියොත් ඔවුන් ඔබවත්  මරා දමනු ඇත. වහාම පලා යන්න” යනුවෙන් ඔවුනට අවවාද කලේය.

ඔවුහු  එතනින් සුමනකූටයට(සමනල කන්ද) පලා ගියහ. එහිදී වැඩි මහලු සහෝදරයා නැගනිය සමග විවාහ වී කඳුකරයේ රජු ගෙන් අවසර ගෙන එහි ජීවත්වූහ. පුලින්ද ජනයා (බොහෝවිට වැද්දන් විය හැකිය) ගෙන් ඇතිවිය.

 පන්ඩු රජුගේ තානාපතිවරු මදුර රට සිට පැමිණි පිරිස් රජ කුමරිය මූලික කොට විජය කුමරු වෙත පඬුරු සහිතව බාර දුන්හ. විජය කුමරු දූතයන්ට සත්කාර සම්මාන කොට තමන්ගේ ඇමති වරුන්ට සුදුසු පරිදි කුලඟනන් විවාහ කර දුන්නේය. ඔහුගේ ඇමතිවරු සැනකෙලි පවත්වා විජය කුමරුන් රාජාභිෂේක කලහ. ඉන්පසු විජය රජතුමා, පඩි රජුගේ දියණිය විශාල උත්සවයක් පවත්වා අඟ මෙහෙසිය තනතුරට පත් කර ගත්තේය. තමන්ගේ ඇමතිවරුන්ට බොහෝ වස්තුව දුන්නේය. එසේම තම මහේෂිකාවගේ පියානන් වූ පඩි රජු වෙත, අවුරුදු පතා රන් කහවනු දෙලක්ෂයක් වටිනා සක් මුතු යැව්වේය. (තම්බපණ්ණි රාජධානිය වාර්ෂිකව පඬුරු යවන උප රාජ්‍යයක් බවට පත්ව ඇති බව පෙනේ. එසේම මෙතරම් ධනය මේ ටික කාලය තුළ එකතුව තිබීමෙන් ම, විජය කුමරු පැමිණෙන ට පෙර සිටම  ප්‍රදේශය සශ්‍රීක පලතක්ව තිබුණු බව පෙනේ.)

ව්ජය රජතුමා තරුණ කල විශමාචාරයෙහි යෙදුනද, ලංකාවේ රජ වූ පසු අවුරුදු තිස් අටක් තම්බපන්නී නගරයේ සිට දැහැමින් සෙමින් රට පාලනය කලේය.

By this time, Vijaya had a son and a daughter from Kuveniya.  When Prince Vijay heard the arrival of Princess from  Madurapura,he went to Kuweni and said 

 “My people always live in fear because you are different from us, dear.  So leave the children here and go away from  this city”.   Hearing this, Kuveni was very afraid, knowing that the other demons would punish her for the traitorous act  she commited earlier.  Prince Vijaya saw this and said, "I will make a sacrifice of a thousand gold coins for you."  Although she requested many times, Vijaya did not change his decision, knowing full well that she would be in danger, so she took her children to Lankapura. ( It appears that the people who lived before Vijaya, were living in cities even at this time)

 She left children  outside and  went into the city, her people suspected that she had come to spy again, and there was a great commotion.  A fierce man  killed her with a single blow.

 A brother of her mother saw this and went out of the city and asked Kuveni's children who they were.  Having come to know that they are the children of Kuveniya

 “Your mother was killed.  If you stay here they will kill you too".  He warned them to run away immediately.

They fled from there to Sumanakoota (sripada)mountain.  There the older brother married the younger sister and got permission from the king of the mountains and lived there.  The Pulinda people descended from them. ( Most probably present day Veddas)

 The ambassadors of King Pandu led the people from Madura and handed them over to Prince Vijaya.  Prince Vijaya treated them well  and married  young women  to his ministers as befits them.  His ministers celebrated  and crowned Prince Vijaya.  Then King Vijaya married the daughter of King Pandu and made her  his queen.  He gave a lot of wealth to his ministers.  He also sent pearls and conch shells  worth of  two lakhs of  gold to King Pandu, annually to  the father of his wife. ( The ability to send such a large, annual gift points to that this small Kingdom was very rich even before arrival of Vijaya. Also this annual gift make it looks like that Kingdom of thambapani, probably had made some arrangement, with Kingdom of Madurai, to assist them if they are  attacked)

 Although King Vijaya misbehaved  when he was young, after becoming the king of Sri Lanka, he ruled the country from the city of Tambapanni with righteousness for thirty-eight years.
