From  https://lakshmanillangakoon.blogspot.com/2022/07/blog-post_19.html?m=1

The queen of King Vagu, who lived in the capital of the country of Vagu in India, was the daughter of the king who lived in the country of Kalinga.  (This Vanga country is the land of present-day West Bengal and Bangladesh in India.  Kalinga refers to the eastern states of India, now Odisha, Andhra and Chhattisgarh).

The emperor of this Kalinga country and his queen had an extremely beautiful daughter.  But because of her misbehavior, the king and queen hated her.  This was further influenced by the royal soothsayers predicting that she would live with a lion in the future.

One day princess left the palace alone, in search of an independent life.  She secretly joined a caravan of carts, which was heading to Magadha country.  On the way, in a dense forest of Lala country, a lion attacked the caravan. The people in the caravan were afraid of the lion and ran away from him, but the princess ran towards the lion.

As the lion grabbed the prey and walking away from the wagon, he saw her and fell in love with her.  Seeing this , she remembered the prophecy of fortune tellers, so she fearlessly touched the lion.

The lion, greatly excited by her touch, mounted her on his back and ran, leaping to his den.  For this couple, twins;  A prince and a princess, were born.

The son's arms and legs were as strong as a lion's, so the mother named him Sinhabahu.  Her daughter she  named  Sinha Sewali.  The young prince was sixteen years old and had doubts about the difference in the nature of his mother and father and asked:

“Dear mother why do you and our father look so different?˜

She explained to him the reason for the difference in appearance.

“Why don't we go out of this cave?˜ he asked her further.

“Your father always blocks the entrance to this cave with a big rock when he  goes out,” she explained.

On hearing this, he removed the stone that was closing the entrance, carried it on his shoulder, traveled fifty yojanas in the forest in one day, and returned.

One day, after lion went out for hunting, Prince Singhabahu left the cave with his mother on his right shoulder and his sister on his left shoulder.  As they had no clothes, they broke the branches of the trees and wore them to cover themselves and came to a village near the forest.  This land on the border of Vagu country was ruled by the son of the army commander of King Vagu who was an uncle of Prince Sinhabahu.  He was supervising some industry from the shade of a banyan tree when he met this group.  He saw them and inquired about them.
